Residential Collection Information
Crafton Borough is contracted with Valley Waste Service, Inc., as the provider for the Borough’s residential Solid Waste and Recycle Collection Service, under a 5-year contract, for ALL residential homes and apartments with 8 or less units.
Residents are encouraged to contact Valley Waste directly for all missed pickups, bulky waste, white waste, electronic waste, or hazardous waste collections by phone at (724) 843-9373 opt. 1, by email at customersvc@valleywaste.com or via their website at www.valleywaste.com.

What are examples of the types of collection Valley Waste will offer to Crafton Borough.
- Household Solid Waste — Weekly collection—Household waste such as table and kitchen waste, crockery and glass, boxes, paper, used clothing or shoes.
- Recyclables— Bi-weekly Collection—Aluminum & Metal Cans, Plastics (PET, HDPE) #1, 2, & 5, paper, cardboard, and glass*. *Glass will be repurposed.
- Bulky Waste —Weekly collection—Furniture, furnishings, plumbing fixtures and other household clutter items. Mattresses and Boxsprings (wrapped in plastic and taped securely tight). Carpet cut and rolled into 4ft sections, up to 6 bundles. Large items should be broken down and placed out one section per week.
- White Goods —Bi-weekly Collection (Fridays during recycle week)— Metal appliances, stoves, hot-water tanks, refrigerators*, washers, dryers, dishwasher. *Appliances containing refrigerants must be tagged certifying the removal of refrigerant.
- Electronic Waste — Quarterly Collection— TV’s, computers, tablets, monitors, keyboards, printers, stereos, and devices used for streaming.
- Hazardous Waste — Quarterly Collection— Household paint, pesticides, pool chemicals, drain cleaners, degreasers, car care products, motor oil and batteries.
Please contact Customer Service 24-Hours prior to your scheduled collection day for all Bulky Waste, White Waste, or Electronic Waste and 15-Days prior to your scheduled collection day for any Household Hazardous Waste.
MISSED PICKUPS: All missed pickups must be reported to Customer Service within 24 hours of your scheduled collection. If you fail to report a missed pickup to Valley Waste within this time, they will be unable to place a return request.

Trash & Recycle Preparation
These collection guidelines will stay the same with Valley Waste.
- Receptacles should be placed at the curb, within 5 feet of the public roadway,
location will not change.
- Lids should be left closed or tightly secured to the bin.
- Receptacles should be clearly visible from the street. Please ensure they are not hidden or blocked from view.
- Recyclables should be loose in cans and clearly marked recycle. Recycle that is bagged will not be collected.
- Each week residents may place one bulk item out for collection.
- NOT COLLECTED: Construction materials, building materials, hazardous waste, electronic waste, vegetation or soil, tires or flammable/explosive materials will not be collected with your weekly pickup.
- There will be a five (5) bag limit per household/apartment unit. Bags should be no heavier than forty (40) pounds.
- Residents may purchase five (5) additional “Bag Tags” for $10.00 if you need to dispose of additional bags over the five (5) bag limit. These tags can be purchased and paid over the phone through Valley Waste by calling (724) 843-9373.
- Solid waste must be bagged. Solid waste placed at the curb in grocery bags, paper bags, or cardboard will not be collected.
- Valley Waste will schedule specific streets for collection throughout the week, Tuesday through Friday. Your street will have pickup on a designated collection day each week, neighboring streets may have collection on a different day each week. Crafton Borough will no longer have pickup only on Tuesdays.
- Valley Waste provides specific dates for monthly collection of Electronic Waste and specific dates for quarterly collection of Household Hazardous Waste. Please review the calendar for those dates to ensure you have time to notify them for pickup of your items.
Billing for Trash and Recycling begins at the end of January each year for the current year.
2025 Trash & Recycling Fee (per unit): $329.60, plus the $5.00 billing fee.
Discount Period: If paid by February 28th, a 2% discount is available.
Face Value Period*: Full amount due by March 31st.
Quarterly Payments*: Due by March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st.
*A penalty of 10% is assessed on payments not received by the due date.

Follow the link to the website and schedule a day for items to be collected. The maximum amount you can donate is 25 bags at time. Please see below for items that they will collect.
- CLOTHING: Ladies, men's, kids, children’s, baby, purses, belts, ties, wallets, dresses, shirts, pants, shoes. Virtually all types of Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories.
- HOUSEHOLD: Dishes, glasses, silverware, small household appliances, bedding, linens, pillows, draperies, curtains, rugs, jewelry and cosmetics, comforters, home decor, baby items, art and frames.
- TOYS: Stuffed animals, board games, dolls, action figures, and sports equipment.
- ELECTRONIC: Stereo, radio, Xbox, Nintendo, Playstation, computers, laptops, monitors, DVD players, cameras, typewriters, and electronics. All types of small kitchen appliances. Not accepting TVs at this time.
- BOOKS: Hardcover, softcover, fiction and non-fiction, e-readers.
- EQUIPMENT: Exercise equipment: small weight benches, weights, sports gear, Sporting equipment: ski equipment, snowboards, helmets, baseball bats, basket balls, soccer equipment, tennis equipment, Tools: drills, saws, nail guns, Yard tools: lawnmowers, weed eaters, and hand trucks (no fuel of any type please!).
- SMALL FURNISHINGS: Mirrors, nightstands, headboards, office chairs, decor and other small home items.
- OTHER: Bikes, musical instruments, small filing cabinets, garage sale leftovers, small appliances: microwaves, blenders, toasters, coffee makers, and almost anything else.

- Scan the QR code to print a shipping label. Drop the bag off at a USPS local
- Items will be repurposed and reused to create new fabrics and construction materials. Items are sorted into over 250 categories. Around 70% are re-used globally, while over 20% are recycled into new fibers and for uses like pet bedding and building materials.
- Clothing can be accepted. Items accepted are pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, jackets, socks (even single socks), washed underwear, sweatshirts, swimwear, dresses, tops, leggings, sports bras, jerseys, uniforms, and kids' clothing.
- Shoes, including sneakers, boots, high heels, sandals, mules, slides, and even single shoes!
- Home Goods, unsoiled bath towels, robes, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, down comforters, and duvet covers (no grease stains, please; grease can clog the recycling machines).
- Accessories, bags, backpacks, purses, clutches, crossbody bags, belts, suspenders, hats, caps, helmets, jewelry, scarves, handkerchiefs, and bandannas.
